The Institute for Business & Home Safety Research Center is a state-of-the-art multi-peril applied research and training facility. The primary lab includes a one-of-a-kind 145' wide by 145' long wind tunnel designed to simulate Category 1, 2, and 3 hurricanes, extra-tropical windstorms, thunderstorm frontal winds, wildfires, and hailstorms.
The multi-faceted research includes testing of full scale, 1-and 2-story residential, commercial and agricultural structures; individual structural components and integrated building systems; and existing/potential test methods and metrics.
The primary structure is precast with a complex structural steel system for the wind tunnel fan array.
