The 1515 Wynkoop Office Building is a core and shell office building in the historical Lower Downtown area of Denver, Colorado. From the beginning of the project, 1515 Wynkoop was pursuing LEED Certification. The project submitted under the LEED for Core & Shell Green Building Rating System for a Pre-Certification, which allowed the developer to market the building to potential clients as a LEED "Pre-Certified" building. 1515 Wynkoop was initially Pre-Certified for a Silver Certification. During the course of construction, however, the project team was able to realize that additional points were feasible to attain for little to no cost to the Owner. One of the additional points that were earned was an exemplary performance point for construction waste management, which meant that the team diverted or recycled over 95% of the project’s construction waste from the landfill. As a result of these efforts, the project achieved a Gold Certification under the LEED for Core and Shell (CS) version 2.0 Green Building Rating System.
